School’s (almost) out for summer 2021 and you’re looking forward to spending some family time together, away from home, that will be a treat for the kids and the grown-ups too. But all we’re hearing about is how difficult it is to book a family summer holiday, with the usual UK holiday resorts in high demand, and commanding high prices too.

Let us help you! Here in landlocked Staffordshire is a charming country inn, a characterful family-friendly hotel, with comfortable rooms, a well-stocked bar and top-end gastro pub. You’ll be spoilt for choice with plenty of quirky and fun, local family attractions.

Waterworld

Make a big splash

OK, we know the seaside and a pool is high on the list of things we love about our summer holidays, but don’t despair if the coastal break is out of reach for you. Within half an hour’s drive of the Dog and Doublet, you have both Alton Towers Waterpark and Waterworld. They offer indoor and outdoor water adventure. Slip, slide and swoosh down a water slide or lie back on a lounger and read a book. Whatever the weather, your family can make a big splash, right here in the middle of England.

Monkey Forest

Monkey around

Your tribe will come face-to-face with 140 barbary macaques, as they troop around Trentham Monkey Forest. There are no cages, you see their natural behaviours in their forest, and hear interesting insights from the guides. 5 new baby monkeys have just been born, and they can’t wait to meet your little monkeys! If you love a bit of animal magic, Amerton Farm is just around the corner from the Dog and Doublet Inn. The little ones will enjoy Billy’s play barn, get to meet the farm animals and even walk with Alpacas!

Alton Towers

Massive giggles and mega thrills

Florida and Paris theme parks are not an option this year, but a trip to a theme park is within easy reach. Alton Towers is right on our doorstep with roller coasters galore, big shows and CBeebies Land to keep every member of the family entertained.

Dog Walk

Best buddy is welcome too

When we say all the family, we mean all the family - and that includes man’s best friend. Yes, your dog is very welcome at the Dog, and we can recommend dog-friendly visitor attractions, nearby too. Head north on the A34 to Trentham Gardens with its mile-long lake, barefoot walk, fabulous fairy trail and extensive gardens and shopping village, there’s even an aptly named shop for dogs “Doggie Fashions”! Take the A51 south, for a scenic route to Cannock Chase, with endless walkies, a dog activity trail, “Go Ape” high ropes course, cycling trails and Segway hire.

Phew, we’re exhausted

After your action-packed day (all our suggested attractions are no more than 35 minutes-drive away) head back to the comfort of the Dog and Doublet Inn. Sit back, relax and let us wait on you. Enjoy a delicious dinner in our gastro pub, where fine dining meets your favourite classics meals, made with the best quality produce from the rural Midlands. Fancy a sundowner or a nightcap before retiring to the comfort of your bed? No problem.

Don’t worry, every morning we’ll fuel you up with a hearty full English, healthy eggs benedict or berry pancake breakfast. If you fancy a lazy, driving-free day, there are beautiful scenic walks straight out of the pub door. Get back and indulge in a classic afternoon tea or savoury “gentleman’s” version with a choice of beers. Enjoy the traditional yet contemporary comfort of our restaurant, or relax in our extensive grounds, choose from the courtyard, beer garden or sit out front, with views of the cricket ground and Sandon estate, beyond.

Shhhh, don’t tell everyone

Whatever you’re hearing about the difficulties of finding a UK family summer break away, we’ve got it sorted for you here at The Dog and Doublet Country Inn, in the heart of rural Staffordshire. Your family summer break is just a click away.
