  • Gin Night – 29th September 2019 (8/6/2019)

    Calling all Gin lovers!

    After the success of our very first Gin Night back in May, we’re delighted to announce our next one is on Sunday 29th September!

    We’ve got an amazing range of over 40 gins which have been expertly picked by The Dog and Doublet’s very own Gin connoisseur, Rebecca (also known as our Operations Manager!). So whether you’re prefer fruity and floral or juniper rich and robust, we’ve got the Gin to tickle your taste buds!

    Tickets are £25 per person and not only include 4 G&T tasters and your very own Gin balloon to use throughout the night and take home with you, but you also get to enjoy our delicious bowl food menu that has been carefully created by our Head Chef, Scott and his team.

  • Launch of The Bears’ Lair 2019 (2/28/2019)

    The Dog & Doublet, Sandon was very privileged to be the chosen venue to host the 2019 launch of Stafford’s “Bears’ Lair” competition, where we welcomed the Bears, business supporters and applicants for this years event.

    The Bears’ Lair encourages local, Stafford, budding entrepreneurs to enter the competition which holds a winners prize worth over £15000 – including professional legal advice, accountancy support, branding advice, a business buddy for a year and more!

    The application window opened at the launch event and applications are welcome from any local business – new start ups, a businesses looking to expand, or a starting point for a new idea. The competition is open to anyone over the age of 18 who is resident within the Stafford area or who has a business registered in Stafford.

    This is the second year The Bears Lair competition  has been in existence and last years winner Ben Popple from Mr Popple’s Chocolates joined us for the evening.

    Also in attendance were all five Bears: Carthy Accountants, Bespoke Creations, Nowell Mellor Solicitors, Stafford Railway Building Society and Verso Creative who were ready to welcome potential applicants to introduce themselves, explain how the process works and gave the opportunity to answer any questions they may have.

    Application forms can be obtained by clicking here. The application window is open until 5pm on Wednesday 26th June. Shortlisting takes place on Wednesday 24th July.  The shortlisting event is a closed event and takes place on a blind basis in terms of the Applicant’s personal details, so as to avoid any potential conflict in terms of existing associations with any of the Bear firms.  Shortlisted applicants will then present a live pitch at the Grand Final event to be held at our four star, sister hotel The Moat House, Acton Trussell, Stafford  on Wednesday 24th September. Immediately after the pitch presentation, finalists will be questioned by the Bears’ regarding the business proposal before the winner is announced at the end of the evening.

    All proceeds from The Bears Lair are donated to a local charity which for this year, announced at the launch event, is Stafford Together   A  new sustainable endowment fund for the Stafford area, Stafford Together is designed to support the voluntary sector in a sustainable way for the long term. The aim is to raise a similar amount to other successful schemes locally, where they have made an appreciable difference to their local areas.

    Stafford Together will be the first – and only – local fund that allows people to support their community, with all moneys raised staying in the area.

     

  • Booking.com Guest Review Awards 2018 (2/19/2019)

    The Dog & Doublet are celebrating today having been notified that we are the recipients of a booking.com Guest Review Award for 2018.

    Our popular Arts and Crafts period county inn, located in the village of Sandon, in the heart of Staffordshire, offers traditional innkeeper hospitality attracting both business and leisure guests.

    Achieving a score of 8.9 out of 10 means The Dog & Doublet has achieved one of the highest scores on the Booking.com website and we are delighted that our commitment in providing excellence in hospitality has been recognised.

    The Guest Review Awards programme is Booking.com’s yearly appreciation programme that recognises partners for their exceptional hospitality, as evidenced in the review scores left by guests after their stay.

    Booking.com was founded in 2000 when Netherlands based bookings.nl merged with Booking Online.  It’s headquarters are based in Amsterdam.

  • Dog & Doublet Refurbishment (1/15/2019)

    The Dog and Doublet at Sandon will close its doors at 3pm on Sunday 13th January until 5pm on Tuesday 22nd January for a refurbishment of the popular country inn’s kitchen and an internal redecoration of the ground floor.

    Located in the village of Sandon on the A51, midway between Stone and Rugeley, The Dog and Doublet is run by The Lewis Partnership who operate several establishments in Staffordshire including The Moat House at Acton Trussell, The Red Lion at Bradley and The Bank House at Hixon.

    The Dog and Doublet refurbishment will be centred around the installation of a new kitchen. Scott Smith who has worked for The Lewis Partnership for over two decades and has been Head Chef at The Dog for the last five years said, “We’ve physically worn out integral parts of our kitchen due to our high trade levels. This closure gives us the opportunity to carry out the mammoth task of replacing our kitchen floor with the specialist knowledge of Rugeley based, Phoenix Flooring. Once this is done it’s then about installing new kitchen equipment including the latest Rational Combi and Blue Seal ovens and grills and Foster’s energy efficient refrigeration.”

    The Dog and Doublet Inn SandonThe kitchen will not be the only area having some attention during the shutdown, the ground floor will benefit from some tender loving care with new curtains and light fittings, additional furniture and a full redecoration throughout. Rebecca Carroll, Operations Manager at The Dog and Doublet said, “It will be fantastic to see The Dog refreshed and ready for the new year ahead. In the 8 years The LP have ran The Dog and Doublet it has always been a popular choice for locals and passers-by alike and as such is in much need of some TLC! We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to see our new look.”

    During the refurbishment The Lewis Partnership are again championing local suppliers from Staffordshire such as Wallace Contracts from Stoke on Trent who will be doing the painting and decorating, Express Curtains in Stafford will be making all our new curtains, Stoke-on-Trent based E2 Contract Lighting will be providing all our new light fittings and all the new furniture is being made less than 4 miles away at Taylors Classic Furniture in Stafford.

    The Dog and Doublet will reopen on Tuesday 22nd January at 5pm with a brand-new menu that celebrates seasonal food and our trusted local suppliers. Bookings are already being taken for the reopening and you can book online at https://www.doganddoubletsandon.co.uk/eat

  • Closed for food from 1st -5th February 2016 (2/1/2016)

    kitchen refurb at the dog and doubletWe are undertaking some TLC in our kitchen between 1st – 5th February 2016 and will therefore be unable to serve food during these dates.  Our bar will remain open from 11am-2pm and 5pm-11pm.  Normal service will resume on Saturday 6th February!

    We are delighted to have been shortlisted as finalists in the Gastro Pub of the Year (Midlands) category of The Food Awards England 2015!

    Now in their second year, the awards are designed to celebrate and reward the very best in England’s food sector. Nominations are received from the general public a commend the talented individuals and businesses who are dedicated to constantly delivering high-quality dishes, produce and supplies to ensure impeccable service to their customers

  • Head Chef Opportunity for Newly Acquired Staffordshire Gastro Pub (10/8/2015)

    We are now searching for an experienced and talented future Head Chef to run all aspects of the kitchen within our new acquisition which will trade as an unbranded country gastro pub.

    This means you will have the best of both worlds – the support, benefits, incentives and opportunities of a larger company, with the autonomy, creativity and individuality of an independent.

    We require a Head Chef who wants the opportunity to create their own seasonal menus, to produce top quality food using fresh and seasonal ingredients, putting together outstanding classic dishes, so creativity and a good eye for detail is essential.

    The ideal candidate must:

    • Have relevant experience in a similar, unbranded pub/restaurant and be comfortable working in a fast paced and demanding environment
    • Be classically trained
    • Be a natural communicator and inspirational to your team, encouraging and developing the very best of them
    • Have extensive knowledge of seasonal food, alongside suitable experience working with fresh produce, menu design and cost, as well as ensuring high levels of health and safety compliance
    • Experience of CaterCost and ResDiary is a preferred skill
    • Level 3 Food Hygiene or above
